At a recent Parent Leadership Team meeting, Superintendent Tommy Wallis recognized the more than $1 million worth of time donated by thousands of dedicated Bryan ISD volunteers this year.
The district’s Volunteer of the Year, Brandi Wiemers, was recognized for giving more than 840 hours of her time to Bonham Elementary in Bryan ISD this year—or about 140 hours per six weeks. The time she has volunteered to serve children is estimated to be worth almost $18,000, but in truth, the service of volunteers is priceless.
The district calculates volunteer time based on an identification verification system that tracks volunteer time, but hundreds--if not thousands--of hours go undocumented when volunteers serve after school, at sporting events, proms, during fine arts events and during Project Graduation. To arrive at the $1 million calculation, the district multiplied the total number of recorded volunteer hours by $21.35/hour, the figure estimated by AARP as the value of volunteer time.
We thank our hard working volunteers for serving and loving children every day in Bryan ISD. Click here to learn more about volunteer opportunities at Bryan ISD.
