BRYAN ISD 2012-13 PUBLIC NOTIFICATION OF TEACHER QUALITY
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) accountability system requires districts to monitor and report the qualification status of teachers to improve teacher quality at the local level. To achieve this goal, the act requires all teachers teaching core subject academic areas to meet specific competency and educational requirements. Teachers who meet these requirements are considered highly qualified. Bryan ISD is committed to having 100% of classrooms filled with “highly qualified teachers.”
Teachers are required to be highly qualified if they are the Teacher of Record providing direct instruction to students in any core academic subject area, including English, reading or language arts, mathematics, science, foreign languages (languages other than English), civics and government, economics, arts, history, and geography.
Highly qualified teachers must:
- Hold at least a bachelor’s degree;
- Be fully certified to teach in Texas; and
- Demonstrate competency in their core academic subject area
At Bryan ISD, 100% of teachers meet these requirements. This information reflects classes taught on all BISD campuses, including high-poverty and high-minority campuses. Bryan ISD will continue to recruit the best qualified applicants for all vacant positions.
Bryan ISD provides high-quality professional development training for all teachers and other instructional staff. All Bryan ISD academic core teachers participate in high-quality professional development training. It is the district’s goal to recruit fully certified and highly qualified teachers for our students.
